This wine is like a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. Gruner Veltliner, a grape variety primarily associated with Austria, has found a new home in the cool climate of Anderson Valley and is definitely made with love, by the winemakers, at Navarro Vineyards.

To produce the Grüner, Navarro winemakers began by harvesting the grapes in very cool conditions, followed by destemming and a gentle pressing process. The clear juice underwent cold-settling before fermentation in temperature-controlled oak ovals. Once fermentation was complete and the wine had reached dry, they topped up the casks and allowed the wine to age for seven months on the yeast.

This very distinctive white wine has a pale straw color with hints of slight white pepper, citrus, and is slightly floral on the nose. On the palate, crisp green apple, ripe pear, citrus, and a touch of minerality. And my favorite part of any white wine, that refreshing acidity—it’s like a burst of energy that keeps you coming back for more.

I would definitely pair this with a light salad, some spicy Asian cuisine, or simply enjoy it on its own. And if you ever find yourself near The Navarro tasting room, don’t hesitate—make a beeline for it! You’ll be thanking me later! I am sad to say this wine is now sold out, but Navarro has quite a few excellent white wine choices!

Cheers!

Cynthia
